Galatina<\/strong> is the third municipality for population of the Lecce province, historical symbol of the city is the Palazzo (or Castle) Ducale, dating back to the sixteenth century and once home of the Galatian nobility. There are many churches to visit, including: Basilica of Santa Caterina d\u2019Alessandria (from 1870 declared a national monument), the Mother Church of Saints Peter and Paul, the Church of the Holy Souls of Purgatory. Gallipoli,<\/strong> is represented primarily by the wonderful Aragonese Castle. The historic center, located on an island offshore, hosts places of worship such as the Cathedral of Sant\u2019Agata, with its richly decorated facade. Not far away, the Church of Santa Maria della Purit\u00e0 has a majolica floor. Although part of the Gallipoli Castle, the Rivellino Tower is independent of the main building.
